1. Different Material
Sintered wire mesh is several layers of metal wire cloth sintered together in the vacuum sintered equipment. The wire cloth has different materials, SS304, SS316, SS316L and some alloy materials.
Sintered metal fiber felt is metal fiber randomly laid and then sintered in the vacuum sintered equipment. Usually the material is SS316 and SS316L.
2. Different dirt-holding capacity
Sintered metal fiber felt is a three-dimensional structure, that could hold higher dirt than sintered wire mesh.
3. Different Pressure Drop
When the material passes the sintered fiber felt, less pressure is lost than sintered metal wire mesh. Because sintered fiber felt is a three-dimensional structure, the gas could pass it very quickly.
Sintered wire mesh needs higher pressure drop to assure the filter process.
4. Different application
Sintered metal fiber felt is popularly used in gas and solid separation, because of the high dirt-holding capacity advantage. For example,
- Metal filter bags in dust collector systems. It could clean the dust in one step.
- Sintered metal fiber filter plate for BDO process
- Some fuel filter units in the aerospace
Sintered metal wire mesh is usually used for chemical, pharmaceutical, oil and other industries. It’s mainly for liquid filtration and liquid-air filter. For example,
- In the pharmaceutical industry, it’s used for Agitated Nutsche Filter Dryer to filter impurities and permit the hot air to come in to dryer the goods.
- In the oil extraction process, sintered metal wire mesh filter could remove the impurities and protect the equipment.
5. Different Cleaning
Sintered wire mesh filter could be cleaned by backwash, chemical reagent, and ultrasound.
Sintered metal fiber felt could be cleaned by ultrasound or pulse jet cleaning.
