The extruder is an important part of the production process in many industries, especially the plastic and rubber industry. Choosing the correct extruder screen is vital. It could help the companies to keep good quality reputation to avoid loss.

 

2. What is Extrusion?

The extrusion process is to put plastic or rubber particles in the extrusion machine, and heat it to polymer then press it through the mold to be processed into required products, which are continuously produced. The extruder screen is a very important part of it.

3. Types of Extruder Screen

  • The extruder screen could be made by stainless steel and low-carbon steel.
  • There are single-layer or multi-layer screen packs. The cost of single-layer is low, suitable for filtering the environment with low pressure; multi-layer screen packs are strong, suitable for industries with high requirements on quality standards.

The extruder screen is used to filter the impurities in the polymer to ensure that the product quality is uniform. This plays a vital role in the production process. It prevents contaminants and other particles from mixing into the filtering material. Once mixed into the mold, it will cause product quality defects

5. How to Choose the Correct Extruder screen

Material of extruder screen

The extruder is usually used in the production of recycled plastic granules, slices, and rubber compound materials. This requires knowing the corrosion of the filtering products, processing temperature, etc. Then select the correct material. Usually available materials includes: stainless steel 201, 304,316, low-carbon steel.

  1. If the material corrosion is low and the processing temperature is not high, pls choose the low-carbon steel mesh to save costs.
  2. If the filtering material is corrosive and the processing temperature is high, try to choose stainless steel 201, 304 or 316.

Note: usually customers choose the material of the extruder screen according to the order: low-carbon steel, SS201, SS304, SS316. As the product belongs to Consumed products, this option could help reduce production costs.

Shape of Extruder Screen 

Common shapes: circle, oval, Kidney shape, rectangular, etc. 

Structure of Extruder Screen

Pls determine the number of layers of the extruder screens according to the work pressure of the existing screen changers. The number of common layers:

  1. Single layer
  2. Multi-layer point welded, also named screen packs. Generally constructed by 2 layers-5 layers, the middle is a filter layer, and the other layers are the support layer. The solder joints are uniform and the strength is high, long lifetime
  3. Multi-layer framedGenerally 2 layers-5 layers, the middle is a filter layer, and the other layers are support layers. The packs are firm and high strength, long lifetime.

 

6. Processing Process of Extruder Screen 

  1. Punching. It is suitable for mass production, reducing production costs.
  2. Laser cutting. It is suitable for special shape production with small quantity, high accuracy.

 

7. Weaving Method of Extruder Screen

Plain weave

Plain weave is that the warp wire and weft wire are the same thickness. Meanwhile the mesh count the same in both warp side and weft side. They cross each other one top and one bottom. The hole size is square and uniformly.

Plain Dutch Weavel

Plain dutch weave is that the warp side and weft side have different mesh count. Warp wire is thicker than weft wire. They cross each other one top and one bottom.

Reverse Dutch Weave

Plain dutch weave is that the warp side and weft side have different mesh count. Warp wire is thinner than weft wire. They cross each other one top and one bottom.

This mesh is used for continuous filter belt.

Twill weave

Twill weave is that the warp wire and weft wire are the same thickness. Mesh count is also the same in the two direction.  The wire cross each other two top and two bottom.

8. Note

  1. Extruder screen can be cleaned and reused, but during the cleaning process, please be careful not to avoid damaging the surface.
  2. When storage, pls pay attention to moisture-proof and pressure-proof.
