Metal Disc & Ring Weight Calculator

Calculate the solid metal volume and theoretical weight of a circular disc or annular ring from finished dimensions and material density.

Dimension basis: enter the finished outer diameter, centre opening, thickness and quantity. A solid disc has a centre opening of zero.

Enter disc dimensions

Choose a material or enter a verified custom density.

Reference densities are indicative; alloy condition and tolerances affect actual weight.

Calculated results

Solid metal before machining loss or perforation.

Weight per piece0.1246 kgtheoretical
Total weight1.246 kgall pieces
Metal face area0.007854 m²one face, opening subtracted
Metal volume per piece0.00001571 m³area × thickness

Formula and basis

A = π(OD² − ID²)/4; V = A × t; mass = V × density × quantity.

Dimensions convert to metres before calculation. ID = 0 for a solid disc.

How to use the disc weight calculator

1. Select the finished shape

Choose a disc or a ring. For a ring, the inside diameter must be smaller than the outside diameter.

2. Match the material

Select a reference density or enter the density on your alloy certificate.

3. Check manufacturing details

Confirm cut tolerances, porosity, perforations and coatings separately from this solid-metal estimate.

Frequently asked questions

Does this calculate perforated filter disc weight?

No. It assumes a solid metal disc or ring. Openings, mesh, sintered pores and supports need separate measurements or a validated correction.

What does inside diameter mean?

It is the diameter of a complete circular centre opening. Choose a solid disc when there is no opening.

Why may actual weight differ?

Thickness tolerance, alloy density, edge machining, perforations, coatings and bonded parts change the delivered weight.

Can I use this for a porous sintered disc?

Not without a measured apparent density or mass. The solid-metal density would overestimate a porous disc.

Need a finished filter disc?

Send the diameter, thickness, opening, material and drawing for a manufacturing review.
