Filter Cleaning Pressure Drop Recovery Calculator
Compare initial reference, pre-cleaning and post-cleaning measured pressure drops at the same actual flow and comparable conditions.
This tool calculates the fraction of measured pressure-rise removed during cleaning. It does not verify filtration efficiency, element integrity, cleanliness or service life.
Measured pressure-drop comparison
Formula
Removed pressure-rise fraction = (Δp before − Δp after)/(Δp before − Δp initial) × 100%. Remaining rise = Δp after − Δp initial. Post-clean/reference ratio = Δp after/Δp initial × 100%.
The initial reference must be positive and pre-cleaning pressure drop must exceed it. Values above 100% or below 0% are retained with a review note, not clipped into a favorable range.
Frequently asked questions
What does 100% mean here?
The post-cleaning measured pressure drop equals the initial reference. It does not mean 100% contaminant removal or restored filtration efficiency.
Why must flow and temperature match?
Pressure drop depends on flow, fluid and viscosity. Different test conditions can make a direct cleaning comparison misleading. This tool does not normalize those differences.
What if post-cleaning pressure drop is below the initial value?
The removed-rise fraction exceeds 100%. Review conditions, uncertainty and possible element changes or damage; do not assume improved filtration.
What if cleaning raises pressure drop?
The fraction becomes negative. Review residues, drying or conditioning and measurement conditions. The calculator preserves the anomalous result.
Is this a standardized cleaning acceptance test?
No. Acceptance limits must come from your validated process and element requirements. This arithmetic comparison adds no universal pass/fail threshold.
Can housing losses be included?
Only consistently across all measurements. Keep the same test assembly and pressure-tap boundaries, and identify what the measurements include.
