Titanium fiber sintered felt is a porous metal material made from titanium fibers bonded by sintering. The connected fiber structure combines metallic support with passages for fluid and gas transport.

Filtalloy supplies pure titanium sintered fiber felt in TA1, TA2 and TA3, with thicknesses of 0.10–1.50 mm and porosity of 50%–80%. Full sheets, strips, discs, custom cut shapes and formed parts are available, including mesh support on one side or both sides.

Order dimensionsOutline, thickness, cutting tolerances, edge requirements and any forming details according to the drawing.

Specify the material grade, dimensions, thickness tolerance, porosity and surface condition together. For mesh-supported parts, identify the mesh material, mesh structure and finished composite thickness in the drawing.

Sheets, Cut Shapes and Formed Parts

Full sheets can be supplied up to 1500 × 1800 mm. Strips, round discs and shaped blanks can be manufactured to suit the installation outline. Formed parts are supplied according to the customer’s drawing and agreed dimensions.

Provide hole locations, edge requirements, flatness requirements and any forming details where they affect assembly. Quantity, inspection and packaging requirements should be included in the order specification.

Single-Sided and Double-Sided Mesh Support

Titanium fiber felt can be supplied with support mesh on one side or both sides. The fiber felt provides the porous fiber network, while the specified mesh forms part of the support arrangement. Define the material and geometry of the mesh, its orientation and the finished dimensions.

Titanium Felt for PEM Water Electrolysis

Pure titanium fiber felt can be evaluated as a porous transport layer (PTL) in PEM water electrolysis. In an anode assembly, a suitable PTL supports water delivery, oxygen removal, electrical contact and mechanical support. Selection depends on the cell design and the required contact and transport properties.

We supply the titanium felt component to the agreed material and manufacturing specification. For PTL service, define the installed compression, contact surfaces, cleanliness and surface requirements together with the assembly and acceptance conditions.

For the position and functions of this material in the cell, see our pure titanium felt PTL selection guide.

Structure and Selection Requirements

  • Thickness and fit: state the delivered thickness, tolerance, installed gap and compression where relevant.
  • Pore structure: define porosity and any required permeability or pore-structure checks, with their test conditions.
  • Contact surfaces: specify flatness, surface condition and acceptable edge or fiber protrusion where the part contacts another component.
  • Operating environment: identify the fluid or electrolyte, temperature, pressure and component position.
  • Mesh-supported construction: identify mesh material, orientation and finished composite requirements.

Inspection, Handling and Packaging

Agree dimensional, thickness, material and visual acceptance requirements before manufacture. Where porosity, permeability or electrical contact measurements are required, specify the test method, sample condition and acceptance limits.

For porous felt, thickness measurements should use agreed measuring conditions and sampling positions. Define cleanliness and packaging requirements to suit subsequent handling and assembly, and protect the supplied edges and surfaces during transport.

Titanium Fiber Felt FAQs

Which titanium grades can be supplied?

TA1, TA2 and TA3 under the specified GB/T material requirements. Include the applicable standard and grade in the order. International grade requirements can be reviewed against the material specification and supporting documentation.

Can you supply titanium felt with wire mesh support?

Yes. Single-sided and double-sided mesh-supported constructions are available. Specify the support mesh material, geometry, orientation and finished thickness on the drawing.

What sheet sizes and shapes are available?

Sheets up to 1500 × 1800 mm, strips, discs, custom cut shapes and formed parts are available. Dimensions and tolerances follow the agreed drawing.

Does porosity determine PTL performance by itself?

No. Porosity should be considered together with thickness, pore connectivity, surface condition, assembly compression and the cell design. Specify the properties and acceptance conditions needed for the project.

Is this titanium fiber felt or powder-sintered titanium?

This page covers sintered titanium fibers. A powder-sintered titanium component uses metal powder and has a different porous structure. Identify the required medium when providing a drawing or sample.
